helloRecently, I had the opportunity to co-op for 6 months with Apple’s Audio PD team in Cupertino where I worked on the design of the AirPods buds. Across 8 projects, I designed 20+ unique stamped, molded, and die-cut parts, employing DFM and GD&T for production prototype builds. There, I worked closely with several cross-functional teams, including Acoustics, Battery, RF, EE, PCB, FEA, Materials, Manufacturing Design & Quality Engineering, TechOps, and In-Region (China) PD.

Within the first month, I owned 2 meshes from design to production, which are used to achieve noise cancelling, audio quality, and acoustic comfort user experience goals. I learned to effectively advocate PD design requirements and balance them with vendor DFM feedback via nightly vendor calls.

As part of my main co-op project, I designed an innovative twist-to-lock mount to eliminate the use of glue, making a substantial impact in resolving long-standing design challenges. I led a design review to present this work to Audio PD managers, effectively communicating complex technical challenges. Additionally, I helped to design, prototype, and test pad printing for a novel application, which was 1 of 2 Audio PD innovations presented at Demo Day to executives and managers from various PD teams.
