hell
helloThrough this project, I considerably advanced my pattern-designing skills by creating complex shapes I’d never attempted before. Each characteristic feature of Mickey came with its own set of unique challenges that required me to use different crochet techniques to resolve them.
helloI made a few minor alterations to Mickey’s pattern to make Minnie: I modified the shape of the shoes, crocheted her body without the red Mickey shorts, sewed her a dress and bow, and embroidered her long, curly eyelashes.
helloThe most challenging aspect of this project was making Minnie's trademark red polka dot dress (see across).
For every amigurumi I design, I begin by charting out the pattern for each of its individual parts — head, body, arms, legs, tail — on graph paper. Amigurumi are made by crocheting in rounds. So, on each round of the chart, I draw the stitches for that round using crochet stitch symbols.
hello
I crochet the amigurumi as I draw out the pattern. This helps me adjust the pattern until I’m satisfied with the shape. Once I’ve finished the amigurumi, I translate this chart into a written pattern using American crochet terms and abbreviations so that it is easy for any crocheter to follow (see below).
